My baby brother is getting married!
My wedding photography business was just starting to take off when I had my own wedding in 2010. Since then I’ve photographed close to 100 weddings, and I’m pretty sure I think about my brothers during every one. Sometimes it’s the venue that reminds me of a fond place from our childhood or a song during the reception that brings back a memory. (Vince—consider yourself warned— the band at one of my recent weddings played “Cool Jerks” and I may have started compiling a special request list.) Sometimes the room gets a little dusty during a heartfelt toast or when the bride or groom are rocking out with their siblings on the dance floor.
Weddings are certainly all about family, about celebrating the new and the old. Over the years our little original family of five has grown, shifted and gotten a bit more complicated, but beside my own wedding, the ones I have been looking forward to the most are those of my brothers. I’m so excited to add a new branch to the core of our family tree.
Vincent is my baby brother. My first memory of him is disappointment. I was 4. I already had one brother and I was counting on this second sibling being a girl. But since then he’s grown on me, and actually turned into a pretty decent guy. Even more amazing, he convinced a really sweet and wonderful girl to marry him.
Vince and Jen made the trek out to Boston a couple weeks ago, and we were able to fit some engagement photos into their whirlwind weekend. Since Jen is a preschool teacher, we had to make time to visit the “Make Way for Ducklings” statue in the Boston Public Garden, and that provided us with the perfect backdrop for some portraits.
Bonus shot of my daughter with two of her favorite entertainers, Uncle Vince & Aunt Jen. What, doesn’t everyone include their flower girl in their engagement session?
